When is the best time to post on LinkedIn?

Thousands of blogs and articles have been published by social media experts on content ideas, but when is the best time to post on LinkedIn?

Everyone knows that simply having great content isn’t enough to generate tonnes of views and engagement. There are many other factors at work, such as the number of followers and the algorithms of the social media platforms.

Why does timing matter?

The theory goes that different people consume content at different times. For example, workers who commute by train are very active during rush hours because they have nothing else to do but check their phones.

Office workers who drive to work might check their favourite news websites when they first reach their desks in the morning. Having seen what is going on in the world, they are ready to get down to work when the clock strikes 9am.

At lunchtime they might browse the internet again, consuming more in-depth content or connecting with friends on Facebook. There is evidence to suggest there is also a late afternoon spike as workers return to the internet once their tasks for the day are completed.

The evening sees another surge as people sit down to watch television while checking social media on their tablets and phones.

The difference with LinkedIn is that it is a professional business platform so, in theory, should be active throughout the working day.

When is the best time to post on LinkedIn?

This really depends on the audience you are trying to target. Do your research and come up with a plan which you can measure and adapt according to your social media stats.

There have been some statistics published on posting times, with one of the most recent pieces of work being done by software firm Zenesys. Although they looked at all social media channels, the results for LinkedIn were revealing.

Not surprisingly, the evidence showed that the best days to post on LinkedIn are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Weekends and evenings are the worst time, when most people have stopped working and are taking a well-earned break from LinkedIn.

According to Zenesys, the sweet spot in the working day is 10am to 11am — when most office staff are at their desks. This makes sense when you consider that LinkedIn is mainly used by sales people, recruiters and business executives.
